NXPowerLite Desktop 11 introduces a new file size breakdown feature. Users can now use "View details" to audit content within PDFs or Microsoft Office files, to see what's consuming space and preventing further size reduction.
You can access this feature from the Explorer right-click menu, or the View details button inside the NXPowerLite application. It supports PDF files and the newer Microsoft Office formats: PPTX, DOCX and XLSX.
Don’t see View details? If this feature is not in your version of NXPowerLite, you probably need to update to NXPowerLite Desktop 11.
You can check a file either before or after it is compressed. So, you can use it to review the file size breakdown before starting the compression, or to figure out why the compression results weren't quite what you expected.
The results
After opening the View details window you will see the content is organized by size, with the largest items listed first.
The number of items are indicated in parenthesis, for example, Images (42) = forty two images.
Sizes are listed in Kilobytes (KB), and any files below 1,000 KB (1 MB) can be considered reasonably small and easily transferred by email. Most email caps have risen to 5 - 10 MB even in restricted scenarios, although there are still some areas where the limits are much tighter.
PDF files additionally include document properties, including page count, size per page and page size.
For guidance on the current file, use the "How can I reduce this file?" help link at the bottom of the window. These guides describe how to reduce content that NXPowerLite struggles to compress. The guides are also linked to from our support article: Why didn't NXPowerLite Desktop reduce my file?
