Slidewise requires files to be synced with OneDrive in order to analyze them. If you encounter an "Unsupported Cloud file" error, it typically means the file is not correctly synced. For example, if you are in Teams or SharePoint online and use "Open in App" to access your presentations, Slidewise will not work unless the Teams Channel or SharePoint folder is synced. This also applies when opening synced files from Windows Explorer if they are not fully synchronized.
How to Sync Your Content with OneDrive
When you open a file from a Teams channel, Slidewise will not be able to analyze it unless the entire Teams channel content is synced to your computer via OneDrive.
How to sync Teams channels' content:
- Navigate to the Teams channel where your files are stored.
- Go to the 'Files' tab.
- Click the 'Sync' button
Similar to Teams, if you open a presentation directly from SharePoint Online using "Open in App," Slidewise will not work unless the SharePoint folder containing the file is synced to your computer.
How to Sync SharePoint folders:
Note: OneDrive Business app must be running and signed in with your account on your computer.
- Navigate to a SharePoint/Teams or OneDrive folder in a web browser.
- Once inside the folder you want to sync, choose the 'Sync' option
- You should get a notification from OneDrive that your files are now being synced.
- Your files will be available in File Explorer, where you can double click to open them

We have seen the "Unsupported cloud location" error with files synced with Box in only one scenario. This is when Box is added as a connected service in PowerPoint. Connecting Box in this way allows you to see Box as a "Save as..." location in PowerPoint, but as a consequence, it means that PowerPoint uses the "Online file" rather than a file that is in a synced folder on your machine.
Not only does Slidewise not work with these files, but you may also see other issues/popups related to "api.box.com" in your office applications. The solution is to remove Box as a connected service, which enables Slidewise to work with locally synced files.
How to remove Box as a connected service
- Open PowerPoint
- Go to the Account Tab
- In the connected Services section, Remove the Box account
While opening files directly from Windows Explorer often implies local access, certain scenarios can still lead to the 'Unsupported Cloud file' error:
- Mapped Drives: If you are accessing files via a Mapped Drive that points to an online OneDrive location, Slidewise may not function correctly. Mapped drives might not provide the full local synchronization Slidewise requires. Ensure these files are also available through a directly synced OneDrive folder.
- Renamed Shortcut Folders: Slidewise versions 2.5 and later can generally analyze files within shortcut folders. However, if a shortcut folder has been renamed, the OneDrive Client might have outdated references. In such cases, restarting the OneDrive Client (as described below) can help refresh these references and resolve the issue.
Troubleshooting: Teams Channel / SharePoint Folder / Folder is Synced but Slidewise Cannot Analyze the File
If your content appears to be synced, but you're still encountering issues, try the following troubleshooting steps:
- Restart OneDrive client:
How To Restart the OneDrive Client- Right-click the OneDrive client in the notifications area
- Click the cog icon and select Quit OneDrive
- Start OneDrive by typing OneDrive into the start menu and clicking the OneDrive App that is found
- Right-click the OneDrive client in the notifications area
- Restart PC if you haven't already. A simple restart can often resolve underlying synchronization glitches.
- Reset OneDrive client: This process unlinks and relinks your PC, which can resolve persistent syncing problems.
How To Reset the OneDrive Client- To reset OneDrive on your Windows PC, open the Run app by pressing Windows + R.
- Next, enter the file path of the OneDrive executable file, followed by /reset, in the text box of the Run app. The file path may vary, but you can try one of the following commands:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
- If the command is correct, OneDrive will reset. If not, you'll receive an error message. You can also manually locate onedrive.exe in File Explorer to find its exact path.
- Once you've input the command, press Enter or click "OK."
- You'll now need to reboot OneDrive. Type "OneDrive" in the Windows Search bar and then click "OneDrive" from the search results.
Report issues with synced files
If you find that you have issues opening files in Synced OneDrive or SharePoint Folders then in order to investigate further we need you to share with us, the following two things.:
A. The path and local path of the PowerPoint file. These are accessed inside PowerPoint:
In the opened presentation, go to File and then Info
There will be a Copy path and Copy local path button near the top of the screen.
When clicked, these will copy the details to your clipboard. We need those details to investigate
B. OneDrive's configuration registry file. This is just a text file detailing how OneDrive interacts with your files and folders and there should not be anything sensitive in this file. However, please feel free to read the content of the file before sending it to us to be sure.
These quick steps should take less than a minute:
- Press Windows+R to open “Run” box. Type “cmd” and then click “OK” to open a Command Prompt.
- Paste the following line of text into the command prompt window and press Enter:
reg export HKCU\SOFTWARE\SyncEngines\Providers\OneDrive onedrive.txt
- Now open Windows Explorer and paste the following in the address bar:
%userprofile%
- There will be a file called "onedrive.txt" in that folder which contains the registry information we need.
C. OneDrive's configuration folder: This contains additional information about how OneDrive interacts with your computer. This is highly unlikely to contain any secure information. Please go to the following location and zip all the contents of the folder:
%localAppData%\Microsoft\OneDrive\settings
We'd really appreciate your help with this, as it's not possible for us to recreate all the scenarios in our lab, we can't get this feature working fully without your help.
