The File Review tool helps you to quickly find and fix a range of quality issues in your PowerPoint files.
Potential issues and interesting items are grouped into categories, each containing a list of slides or shapes. Expand a category to view the shapes. Orange flags indicate warnings, while yellow dots highlight helpful information.
Settings
Text box autofit settings
This category shows the current autofit settings for all text boxes:
- Do not autofit
- Shrink text on overflow
- Resize shape to fit text
Right-click to set all text boxes to "Do not autofit" simultaneously.
Because changing the autofit setting can alter the layout of shapes on slides, you can use the "Copy to Clipboard" feature to copy a list of the affected shapes (see video). This list can then be pasted into another application, serving as a checklist.
Hidden list styles
When you duplicate placeholders, a snapshot of the 9 levels of list styling from your Master is embedded in the newly created Text box. This can cause problems later if those styles include visual elements or fonts, because they cannot be directly edited in PowerPoint.
Slidewise identifies any text boxes that have hidden list styles and lets you remove them if needed. This can help eliminate problem fonts without having to resort to replacing them with other fonts, or replacing the text boxes completely. Look here for more help on removing hidden list styles.
Font Styles
Identify objects with text decorations or font styles (e.g., Bold, Italic, Underline etc.). Navigate quickly to any objects and optionally you can remove styles in bulk.
Languages
See every proofing language used in your presentation. You can see which languages are used and change them if needed, before sharing the file. For each language, you can view every object that uses it and quickly jump to them in PowerPoint.
To set the proofing languages in the presentation, right-click the Languages node in the tree and select "Change Language".
Content
Empty placeholders
Empty placeholders are any placeholders that have no content or formatting in them. These can be navigated to for checking and then easily deleted in one action.
Hidden objects
Slidewise also helps you locate hidden objects that can increase file size and may contain sensitive content. These objects are collected for your review under the File Review tab, allowing you to remove unwanted content quickly and easily.
Hidden slides
Expand the heading to see a list of the hidden slides. Double-click on any to jump to them in PowerPoint. Right-click on the Hidden slides heading to Unhide or Delete them.
Sections
Empty sections can easily accumulate in presentations, particularly larger ones, as slides are deleted and rearranged. The PowerPoint interface doesn't clearly highlight empty sections, so they can easily be inadvertently included when sharing the final presentation.
Slidewise now warns you about any empty sections and for a quick clean-up, you can right-click to "Remove Empty Sections" all at once.
Metadata
Comments
Expand the Comments heading to view a list of slides with comments and jump to them for review. Right-click to export or delete comments quickly using Slidewise.
Document and custom properties
Review and remove any sensitive or confidential information from your presentation by checking and deleting both document and custom properties. These properties can be found and deleted independently under the File Review tab.
Speaker notes
As well as being able to quickly jump to any Speaker notes to check them, you can also Export them to a structured HTML report that can be easily opened in Excel. If you don't need them in your finished file you can easily Delete them using Slidewise.
Animations
Animations
Animations can sometimes detract from a presentation, or if you are not expecting them, can surprise you (not in a good way). If you are reworking a presentation, it can also sometimes be handy to quickly take all of the extraneous content out to leave you with a simpler presentation to work with.
Whether animations are distracting your audience or adding extraneous content to a presentation you are cleaning up, Slidewise simplifies the task. You can now easily identify every animation in a deck, jump to its location, and/or remove it quickly.
Transitions
Under this heading you will find a list of all slides with transitions, along with the type of transition specified.
You have a couple of options for managing slide transitions. You can either right-click on individual slides and jump directly to them to edit their transitions using PowerPoint. Alternatively, you can use the right-click menu on the main Transitions heading to remove all transitions at once.
