This guide covers pre-upgrade considerations, migration details, and post-installation steps for upgrading existing NXPowerLite Server 10 installations to NXPowerLite Server 11.
Pre-Upgrade Checklist
Before running the installer:
- Stop active runs: Ensure NXPowerLite Server is fully stopped. It cannot be in a scheduled run, actively processing, or in a system pause state.
- Note custom service credentials: The installer will reset the Windows Service account to Local System. Record any domain/service account details used to access network shares so you can re-enter them post-install
Upgrade Process
- Download and run the NXPowerLite Server 11 installer.
- The installer automatically updates version 10 in place and restarts the NXPowerLite File Server Windows Service.
- Launch the Dashboard and enter your v11 Registration Key.
Migrated Configuration Settings
The following settings automatically transfer during registration:
- Included and excluded folders (including subfolder rules).
- Optimization, "Files to include", and Scheduling profiles.
- Application Preferences and custom registry settings.
- Processed file history, live reports, and historical report data.
Post-Upgrade Configuration & Considerations.
Reconfigure Windows Service Account
Because the Windows Service account resets during installation, you must re-enter your configured service user account before starting the first run in v11. See this support article for step-by-step instructions.
Default Profile Resolution Changes
In Server 11, the built-in Default optimization profile resolution increases from 1600x1200 to 1920x1200.
- Folders using "Default": Will automatically target 1920x1200 upon upgrading.
- Custom profiles: Existing custom profiles remain untouched.
- To maintain 1600x1200 behavior: Create a custom profile (e.g., "Legacy Default") set to 1600x1200 and assign it to your target locations prior to or immediately after upgrading. Read how to edit settings for multiple folders.
Applying New Compression Features to Previously Processed Files
Server 11 includes engine improvements for PDF, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel files. To re-process files optimized by earlier versions:
- Open the Dashboard and select File > Clear File History.
- Select PDF, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Select Compression failure to re-attempt files that failed or could not be reduced under previous engine versions.
Unmigrated Data & Limitations
- Current Day's Unreported Results: Reported results since midnight on the day of registration cannot be migrated. To preserve 100% of reporting history, stop NXPowerLite Server 10 and allow 24 hours before installing v11.
Troubleshooting Migration Failures
If registration fails or the application enters a fatal error state blocking Dashboard access:
Check the Windows Application Event Log (via Event Viewer) for an error from NXPowerLite for File Servers with Event ID 2088.
- Uninstall NXPowerLite Server 11.
- Open regedit and delete the registry key:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Neuxpower\NXPowerLite Fileserver\11.0 (omit WOW6432Node on 32-bit systems).
- Delete the directory: %PROGRAMDATA%\Neuxpower\NXPowerLite for File Servers v11.
- Reinstall NXPowerLite Server 11, launch the Dashboard, and re-enter your registration key.
- If the error persists, contact us for technical support.
