If you haven't already got one, sign up here for a 7-day registration key.
Once you have the registration key follow the steps below to configure and run your trial
If you haven't already, download NXPowerLite for File Servers and install on your Windows Server.
NXPowerlite for File Servers comes locked in evaluation mode and only when registered will it replace files.
When you purchased NXPowerLite you would have been sent an email containing your registration details. This consists of a Registered Name and a 16-digit Registration Key. To unlock NXPowerLite so that it can replace files:
- Open the NXPowerLite for File Servers Dashboard
- Under the Help menu item select Register...
- Enter your registration detail exactly as they were supplied to you.
Configure the folders and drives that you want NXPowerLite to compress by adding folders. Use the Add folder... button to browse for folders or use the Add Multiple Folders... option in the File menu to configure network drives and UNC paths. See How to scan multiple servers or drives with UNC paths for more details.
For 7-day evaluations, you are only permitted to use NXPowerLite for File Servers compression on copies of production data. We recommend collecting at least 2-5GB of sample files for the evaluation.
By Default NXPowerLite for File Servers will skip files that have been modified in the last 7 days. Also, In order to ensure files are not skipped by their modified date follow these steps:
- Open Dashboard
- Apply All files profile to all selected folders
For more information, please see the Files to include sections in the included help documents
By default, NXPowerLite for File Servers is set to automatically loop over the folders that you have configured. For evaluation, it is better to run over the data once and then produce a detailed report.
In order to change the run mode follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Run mode menu item
- Select Single Pass
NXPowerLite for File Servers relies on the underlying NXPowerLite File Server Windows Service in order to process files. By default, the service uses the Local System Account which is unlikely to have the permissions required to access all of the folders and drives that will be configured on the Dashboard.
Ensure the service is configured with an account that has full access to all the folders and drives configured. See Configuring the NXPowerLite Windows Service for more details.
It is also worth spot-checking the compressed files to ensure that you (and other stakeholders) are comfortable with the compressed file quality.
