NXPowerLite for File Servers remains in evaluation mode until you enter a valid registration key. Once activated with a key the software will be fully functional allowing you to test the compression and all the features of the software for 7 days. If you haven't already got one, sign up here for a 7-day registration key.
Once you have the registration key follow the steps below to configure and run your trial
1. Download and install NXPowerLite for File Server
If you haven't already, download NXPowerLite for File Servers and install on your Windows Server.
NXPowerlite for File Servers comes locked in evaluation mode and only when registered will it replace files.
2. Register NXPowerLite for File Servers
When you purchased NXPowerLite you would have been sent an email containing your registration details. This consists of a Registered Name and a 16-digit Registration Key. To unlock NXPowerLite so that it can replace files:
- Open the NXPowerLite for File Servers Dashboard

- Under the Help menu item select Register...
- Enter your registration detail exactly as they were supplied to you.

3. Add folders and drives
Configure the folders and drives that you want NXPowerLite to compress by adding folders. Use the Add folder... button to browse for folders or use the Add Multiple Folders... button to configure network drives and UNC paths or paste a list of folder paths from Explorer. See How to scan multiple servers or drives with UNC paths for more details.
For 7-day evaluations, you are only permitted to use NXPowerLite for File Servers compression on copies of production data. We recommend collecting at least 2-5GB of representative sample files for the evaluation.
4. Configure the Windows Service
NXPowerLite for File Servers relies on the underlying NXPowerLite File Server Windows Service in order to process files. By default, the service uses the Local System Account which is unlikely to have the permissions required to access all of the folders and drives that will be configured on the Dashboard.
Ensure the service is configured with an account that has full access to all the folders and drives configured. See Configuring the NXPowerLite Windows Service for more details.

5. Start compression and review results
Once started NXPowerLite for File Servers will scan your configured folders and search for files it can compress. Once compression is finished it will automatically produce a detailed report for you to view.
It is also worth spot-checking the compressed files to ensure that you (and other stakeholders) are comfortable with the compressed file quality.
