Strict filtering of files

Due to the incredible diversity of content and metadata that can be stored in MP4 and MOV files, some video files will inevitably contain content that cannot be preserved when compressing them.

Much of this content is informational only and not required for normal playback of the file. Therefore we ship our evaluation software with some of these checks disabled by default to ensure a greater diversity of video files can be compressed. We recommend trying it this way and checking the compressed files for playback issues to make sure that your videos are unaffected.

With strict filtering disabled it will do the following:

  1. Remove or ignore unneeded tracks: Video files can contain hidden or unneeded tracks that do not affect the playback of the file. NXPowerLite will strip out the following tracks:
    1. Hint (Provides info on how to package tracks when streaming video)
    2. RTP (Streaming using real-time Transport Protocol)
    3. Unknown (Additional custom tracks that are unknown to our video processing library. For example, Time code and Video Hint tracks.)
  2. Video file box structure: The check to compare the original and compressed files and only allow files that match the box structure of the original files will be disabled. It is possible that there are additional unsupported boxes or missing boxes in the file structure but this does not usually affect playback of the file.
  3. Ftyp Brands: Will allow any Ftyp brand rather than adhering to the strict list detailed in the supported Ftyp brands support article.

If you do encounter issues then you can enable strict filtering using the instructions below. When enabled the software will automatically skip any problem files, as it will then only allow files to be compressed when it can guarantee that the processed file has all the same metadata, track information, file structure and information as the original file.
