Once registered NXPowerLite for File Servers will replace PDF and Office documents and image files with smaller versions to reclaim space in the configured folders or drives. Our simple and quick setup process requires no hardware downtime.
Configure using the following steps and recommendations
If you haven't already, download NXPowerLite for File Servers and install on your Windows Server.
NXPowerlite for File Servers comes locked in evaluation mode and only when registered will it replace files.
When you purchased NXPowerLite you would have been sent an email containing your registration details. This consists of a Registered Name and a 16-digit Registration Key. To unlock NXPowerLite so that it can replace files:
- Open the NXPowerLite for File Servers Dashboard
- Under the Help menu item select Register...
- Enter your registration detail exactly as they were supplied to you.
Configure the folders and drives that you want NXPowerLite to compress by adding folders. Use the Add folder... button to browse for folders or use the Add Multiple Folders... button to configure network drives and UNC paths. See How to scan multiple servers or drives with UNC paths for more details.
When folders or drives are selected they will have default Files to include and Settings profiles. It is possible to customize both of these.
For example, a Files to include profile may be set to skip PowerPoint files or a Settings profile may be set to apply different JPEG quality settings.
For more information, please see the Files to include and Settings sections in the included help documents
This is a global schedule that controls when the software is processing files and when it is paused. By default, the schedule is set to run continuously, however it is possible to create a schedule profile to control when the software is run. For example, you may want to run the software at weekends only.
Currently, individual schedules cannot be applied to specific folders
The software can be set to either run as a Single Pass through the configured folders once or set to Loop Automatically over the configured folders. Use the Run Mode option in the Preferences dialog to set this feature.
For example, setting it to run continuously would mean that after NXPowerLite's first pass through the configured folders, it would continue to reduce new content after it arrives, keeping the size of the folders to a minimum.
NXPowerLite for File Servers relies on the underlying NXPowerLite File Server Windows Service in order to process files. By default, the service uses the Local System Account which is unlikely to have the permissions required to access all of the folders and drives that will be configured on the Dashboard.
Ensure the service is configured with an account that has full access to all the folders and drives configured. See Configuring the NXPowerLite Windows Service for more details.
